High-Energy Venturi Scrubbers

Scion offers Tri-mer high-velocity spray Venturi Scrubbers, a traditional and well-known method for removing fine dust particles from industrial air streams.
Venturi scrubbers, including ejector venturis and eductor venturis, are often installed to remove fine particles from volatile, hazardous or corrosive gas streams, or gas streams containing solid materials that are difficult to handle.  They have been widely used throughout the chemical industry for decades.

The collection efficiency and return-on investment realized with venturi scrubbers are equal, in most cases, to that of a baghouse or electrostatic precipitator.  Venturi scrubbers have a somewhat lower performance efficiency, and (due to their use of high-pressure fans and other factors) a significantly higher operating cost, than a Cloud Chamber Scrubber.

10 Key Features and Benefits of a Venturi Include:
  • Venturi scrubbers collect coarse or fine particulate, including particulate under 1 micron and particulate which is sticky or high in moisture.
  • When there is a high percentage of fine particulate under 1 micron, the pressure drop and energy requirements become very large for efficient collection using a venturi. In practical terms, a venturi cannot collect particles smaller than 0.5 micron. A Cloud Chamber Scrubber (CCS) is in this case the preferred technology.
  • Venturi scrubbers with a quench section (evaporative cooler) accommodate high temperature gas streams, including those from casting, sintering, glass manufacturing, incineration and pyrolysis.
  • Venturi systems can be used for applications with high dust loadings.
  • Venturi scrubbers are suitable for variable gas flows.
  • Venturi systems are continuously wetted, and are therefore not vulnerable to clogging, plugging, scaling, or wet/dry line build-up.
  • Collection efficiency for venturi scrubbers is 95-98.5% (depending on whether they have three, four or five stages)
  • Slurries that contain high concentrations of solid material, or valuable material, can be recycled in venturi scrubbers.
  • A mist eliminator module provides entrainment separation.
  • Venturi systems are custom manufactured in capacities to 300,000 cfm (510,000 m3/h).
  • Venturi scrubbers accommodate vertical or horizontal scroll outlet.
  • Venturi scrubbers are widely used to collect industrial emissions particulate.
For applications (such as pharmaceutical manufacturing or laboratory gas scrubbing) where collection efficiencies must be high or where energy cost minimization is critical, a more prudent choice is a Cloud Chamber Scrubber.
  • A cloud chamber continuously eliminates particulate down to 0.1 microns (and as large as 300 microns)
at efficiencies of 99.8% or higher.  Equally important, a cloud chamber uses only a small fraction of the energy required for venturi scrubbers, or devices such as electrostatic precipitators.
